Ludus Balistris 23th august 2014
Ludus Balistris 2014 Event Page A busy weekend for the Society of the City of Volterra Balestrieri, who has played a leading role in organizing the Ludus Balistris 2014, the event included in the Medieval Week Volterra AD1398. This year’s team Volterra wanted to excel inviting the best Italian teams, or the best teams in the Litab (Italian League Shooting at Balestra), Chioggia, Terra del Sole and Pisa and the three teams of Fib (Italian Federation Balestra), Lucca, Massa Marittima and San Marino, thereby creating an exceptional event at the national level. So, after a grueling assembly of the square, the seven teams are now in the afternoon compared with the test shots, shots or those that are used to “calibrate the Game” for the race, making the showdown of teams better performance than to the other. So did the test shots all the companies have been accompanied by the hosts at its headquarters, for dinner, offered entirely by the Society of Volterra. Unfortunately, time is running out and many had to hurry for dinner, to be deployed in time to the initial procession, and so 21.30 is playing the parade of more than 100 figures, which with the roll of drums and blare of trumpets accompanied the archers in a truly picturesque Piazza dei Priori. So the team competition has begun: the best 12 shooters, they had to hit the target “flat”, also called “wheel”, and then make the sum of the 12 scores achieved. The difficulty of shooting at night is readily seen, with a series of arrows that have missed the target, without reaching any score. The team that went to the center in each round won the Palio, or Massa Marittima, which is once again the Italian team to beat, with its 326 points pulled off an excellent Pisa, which has reached a score of 301. on the podium could not miss San Marino, who has missed only 5 points for the silver medal. Volterra unfortunately ranks a disappointing 5th place with a score really low, highlighting the poor training at night and for some fatigue in the organization of the event. Following the Individual Competition, for which the best 4 shooters from each team faced each other on a single target, the rate or dogwood. And even on this race Massa Marittima got the better with an amazing Francesco Manetti, already King of Balestra (or sample Italian Fib) this year. Second ranks the friend of Terra del Sole, Olivucci Monica, known for its quality of the shot in rate, since in 2010 it was she to take home the title of the Ludus Balistris. Third place my friend Gianfranco Spadoni, visibly happy and excited. The Company Balestrieri of Volterra Thanks to: the public spoke; the sponsors who support these types of events, completely free of charge and accessible to all; Orlando Gotti for his “dogwood”, which annually works with his skill as to be the most coveted prize contestants from teams; Daniel Peretti and Maria Grazia Gazzarri, splendid awards made in alabaster and hand painted; The Bouquet, who made the beautiful flower arrangements that have graced the scene of the Piazza; all archers who participated, the protagonists of this Palio, those without whom we could not do without.
